What is your vision? What are you determined to do? What motivates you to keep dreaming, to keep fighting the good fight? In life, there are two types of motivators. Intrinsic and extrinsic. Internal and external. The best motivator of course is the internal one. Your mind. But, we all know that sometimes our mind is cornered by the enemy. I call It the Devil, but you may not believe that. So, call it whatever you wish. The Enemy is the Enemy. Bi-Polar is the one demon that Sin has given me. It surrounds my mind and pushes on my determination, my motivation and my vision. It pushes hoping that it will break completely.
If you don't know this, I will tell you that most of us who have bi-polar have brilliant minds. Minds that are capable of doing astonishing things in this world. Doctors have found this correlation between those with bi-polar and high intelligence. I say this to say that we have to be smarter than our disease. The Devil may be cunning, but he isn't any more cunning than a common beast. We have the brains. Use them.
Having a good week? Use that time to contrive a plan to combat the bad week. Use the good times to strengthen your resolve and to hone your vision. Use your higher intelligence to your advantage. When a swimmer comes up from the water, does he not breathe? When you emerge from suffering, breathe as the swimmer always does. Breathing physically and metaphorically will strengthen your motivation and clear your vision so that your determination does not wax or wain.
In the good moments, remind yourself of who you are. What drives you. What are you eager to accomplish? For me, I am determined to be fluent in Mandarin and other languages. I am also determined to live a normal life. I know that I will always have this disorder. But, I am not bound by it. It is not my captor nor I its slave. I think of it as the Hulk thinks of other beings, puny. In my good moments, I mediate on my endeavors and will them to be more than my disease. I know that I have to do this before the storm hits and I have to seek shelter.
I hope that someone who needs to will read this and gain inspiration to Live. That hope is what motivates me to continue to write. If I stop, then I will have missed an opportunity to help someone. I'm not one to leave someone stranded on the side of the road. We are better. We are better than with whatever we've been diagnosed. It doesn't define us. We define it. We study it and we understand its every weakness. That's what I mean by intrinsic motivation. Our mind drives us to conquer that which hopes to subdue us. We cannot be beaten. It is not useless to resist.
Vision, determination and motivation. Those are three key factors to living a fruitful life. When feeling good, spend some time with each of these things. If you don't have a vision, create one. Find what makes you determined to live life. Understand what motivates you and what turns you off. This all goes back to understanding you and your disorder. What language do you speak was the title of my last blog for a reason. I need you to really know yourself and what you suffer with. What cross do you bear? Your Vision cannot collapse due to some chemical imbalance. As Yoda said, we more than this crude matter.
"Luminous beings are we".
